SBL Round 2: Al Ahly lose to Ohod

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in SBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game of round 2 took place in Medina where Ohod beat Al Ahly 78-69 on Friday night. American guard Shane Rector (188-94, college: Utah St.) scored 30 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Moroccan-Belgian center Khalid Boukichou (208-92) chipped in 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Ohod's coach Fuad Abou Chakra used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Steve Taylor Jr (206-93, college: Toledo) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Al Ahly will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest. Ohod will try to continue on its current victory against Al Nahda in Al Khobar.
Al Hilal edged Al Salam in Riyadh 74-73. The former international guard Osama Albargawi (188-98) notched 8 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and Nasser Alabsi supported him with 8 points. Even 25 points and 5 rebounds by American forward Nick Stover (198-93, college: USA) did not help to save the game for Al Salam. Al Salam will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Al Hilal will try to continue on its current victory against Al Salam at Al-Awamiyah.
Al Fateh recorded a loss in Al Hasa on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Al Ittihad 81-66. The best player for the winners was DaJuan Summers who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Al Ittihad's coach Mohamed Kardani allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Mohamed Harat produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 16 rebounds for the hosts. Al Ittihad will meet at home Duba Club in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Fateh will play against Al Nasr in Riyadh and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Al Ansar destroyed Abha on the opponent's court 90-60. Winless Duba Club lost to undefeated Al Nahda in a home game 66-77. Al Nasr managed to beat Al Wehda on the road 94-76.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points and 9 rebounds by Makol Mawien of Al Nasr.



Abha - Al Ansar 60-90

But Abha was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Medina 90-60 on Friday night. Al Ansar dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Abha's 34. Al Ansar forced 21 Abha turnovers and outrebounded them 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Abha's players. The best player for the winners was American-Armenian center Todd OBrien (211-89, college: UAB) who had a double-double by scoring 32 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Libyan point guard Mohameed Elsadi (190-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Al Ansar's coach Issam Abdel Hamid felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Tavares Sledge (203-92, college: USC Aiken, agency: PBAplayers Agency) produced 21 points and 8 rebounds and Rayan Alrefae added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Al Ansar will meet at home Al Wehda in the next round. Abha will play against Al Hilal in Riyadh and hope to win that game.

Duba Club - Al Nahda 66-77

Very predictable result in Tabuk where Al Nahda defeated Duba Club 77-66 on Friday. Al Nahda dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Duba Club's 26. Al Nahda forced 24 Duba Club turnovers. The best player for the winners was American center Malik Wineglass (203-93, college: Harris-Stowe St.) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. Turki Alsubaie chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Syrian forward Wael Jlilaty (199-90) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and Canadian Otas Iyekekpolor (203-96, college: Fort Lewis) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Al Nahda and four Duba Club players scored in double figures. Al Nahda will meet at home Ohod in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Duba Club will play against Al Ittihad in Jeddah and hope to win that game.

Al Hilal - Al Salam 74-73

Al Hilal edged Al Salam in Riyadh 74-73. Strangely Al Salam outrebounded Al Hilal 24-12 including a 23-7 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Osama Albargawi (188-98) notched 8 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Nasser Alabsi (183-93) supported him with 8 points. Even 25 points and 5 rebounds by American forward Nick Stover (198-93, college: USA) did not help to save the game for Al Salam. Guard Hadi Alnamer (170-94) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Al Salam will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Al Hilal will try to continue on its current victory against Al Salam at Al-Awamiyah.

Al Nasr will meet at home Al Fateh in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Wehda will play against Al Ansar in Medina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
